Stormy Day at Stonehenge

Both Times that I have visited Stonehenge it has been stormy, which I do think adds a bit of mystery to the place. This painting captures Stonehenge against a backdrop of a relatively overcast sky with subtle hues and soft clouds. The grass beneath the stone structures is painted in a simple manner, with shades of green that provide a naturalistic base for the monument. The treatment of light and shadow gives a three-dimensional effect to the stones and adds to the overall solemn and mystical atmosphere of the scene.
